What can I expect from this nutrition planner?
With this toolkit, you’ll…
- Eliminate race-day guesswork
- Feel confident about your fueling plan
- Reduce risk of GI distress and mid-race crashes
- Maximize energy and endurance when it matters most
- Cross the finish line knowing your nutrition was dialed in
I’m not an elite runner. Is this still for me?
Absolutely! This toolkit is designed for any ultra runner — whether it’s your first 50K or your tenth 100-miler. In fact, everyday runners often benefit the most, since good fueling can make a bigger difference in how you feel and perform. You don’t need to be elite to fuel like a pro.
What if my race is soon?
You can use the toolkit right away. Even if your race is just days or weeks away, you’ll get instant access to the planning spreadsheet, guidelines, and recipes. That means you can quickly put together a race-ready plan without wasting time piecing together information from random sources.
I’ve tried to DIY my fueling before and it didn’t work. How is this different?
Most DIY plans rely on guesswork, incomplete online advice, or endless calculations. This toolkit is built by a registered dietitian and ultra runner using evidence-based guidelines. Plus, it’s customizable to your race distance, pacing, nutrition products, and aid stations, so you’ll walk into race day with confidence, not confusion.
-
The math is done for you
-
Your plan lives in one place
-
You can test and adjust it in training
- You can make multiple race plans at once
-
I have dietary restrictions (gluten-free, plant-based, etc.). Will this work?
Yes! The carb-loading meal plans include both gluten-free and plant-based options, and the pre-race breakfast/snack ideas are diverse enough to fit a wide range of dietary needs. You’ll also find instructions for adding your own favorite products or foods into the fueling database so your plan is 100% yours.
Do I need to be good with spreadsheets?
Not at all. The planner is designed to be plug-and-play. Just enter your race details, select your fueling products, and the spreadsheet does the math for you. No formulas or advanced Excel knowledge required — we’ve built it so it’s easy to use, even if you’ve never made a spreadsheet before. Note: You do need a Google Drive account to use the toolkit.
How do I get access?
Once you purchase, you’ll get an instant digital download with all the tools, guides, and videos. You’ll have lifetime access — meaning you can reuse the toolkit for every ultra you run, year after year.
What if I’ve already been training without a plan?
Totally fine. Most athletes start training before their fueling plan is dialed. This helps you build a plan now, test it in upcoming long runs, and head into race week with clarity instead of guessing. You don’t need to redo your training — you just need a plan you can start using from here.
I’m a coach or sports dietitian — can I use this to plan my athletes’ race nutrition?
Yes. Many coaches and sports dietitians use this primarily for the built-in sports nutrition library, which saves hours of label reading and product research. You can use it with your athletes as part of your coaching or nutrition practice. Just note that it’s for your use, not for copying or reselling.
Do I need access to a laptop or desktop computer?
Yes. The Ultra Race Nutrition Planner is built in Google Sheets and works best on a laptop or desktop computer.
You can view it on a phone or tablet, but for building, adjusting, and using the calculators, we strongly recommend a larger screen.
What if my race has more than 20 aid stations?
No problem. The customizable race day planning spreadsheet works best for races with 20 aid stations or less but it can easily be adapted for races with more. You can create an entirely new race day planning spreadsheet and continue your planning where you left. Or, if you want to keep everything on one planning page, you can utilize one section to plan your nutrition over two aid station segments instead of one. You can customize the names of the aid station segments to stay organized (e.g. “AS20 and 21” or “Schnebly Hill and Munds Park”).
I'm racing a backyard ultra. Can I use this?
Yes! The Ultra Race Nutrition Planner works for backyard ultras. You can think of the aid stations like laps and even change the name from “AS 1” to “Lap 1”. If you plan to complete more than 20 laps, you can create another spreadsheet to continue planning where you left off.
I'm completing a stage race. Can I use this?
Yes! Since the planner allows you to create and work on multiple race plans at once, you can generate a plan for each day of your stage race. This makes organizing your stage race nutrition, pacing, and crew logistics even more streamlined.
